Originally launched as Atlantic City Race Week, the Heart Cup remains New Jersey’s premier offshore sailing regatta. For more than 30 years, some of the region’s best sailors compete in both class and handicap fleet racing. Even more impressive than the keen competition are the hundreds of thousands of dollars that have been raised for Heart related charities over the years. This year the Ocean City Yacht Club’s charity gala, The Heart Ball will take place August 7th 2010
benefiting Shore Memorial Hospital's Cardio Vascular Institute. Sometimes the sailors say it best:
Gentlemen:
I wanted to say thank you on behalf of the Northeast Melges 24 District which I manage and personally on behalf of Team Quantum Newport.
Having never made the trip down before - it was a great venue to sail. As you know the race management makes or breaks a regatta and the RC truly did a great job of keeping the racing strong and more importantly shepharding us in and out to the course in style. We found the RC communication to be consistent and insightful and the overall conditions to be great racing.
Once onshore, I especially want to thank Christine and Kelly for their hospitality and for a great event on Saturday night. They really went out of their way to make us feel very welcome and we very much appreciated it. As we got a chance to interact with some of your other members, we left feeling as if we had stepped into a wonderful summer shorefront community and a lovely group of people. Please forward this email to both of them (Christine and Kelly) along with our thanks.
I believe we will try to make a bigger push for the Melges 24 fleet to come to Ocean City next year. Perhaps making it a three day regatta for the M24s will alleviate some of the Lightning traffic issues as well as maybe putting in a system to keep the farthest boats hauling first on the last day. I know of a number of people who might have come if they had known more about how fun the regatta can be and how great the OCYC membership base is. I'll take on that promotion personally. Finally, a big thanks to Brad and Sean and Mike from the OCYC M24 fleet for being great local hosts. Hopefully we will be back next year with many more boats!
Have a pleasant rest of the summer -
JC Raby - Melges 24 Northeast District Head.
