2024 Junior Sailing Registration Process and Program Information
Morning Classes: 9:15am until 12:30pm ~ Afternoon Classes: 1:00pm until 4:30pm
JUNIOR SAILING SCHEDULE
All courses begin June 17, 2024 and end August 9, 2024 except the Minnows and Seas Programs, whose dates are listed below.
The following is a tentative schedule for the Junior Sailing Program. It is subject to change depending on enrollment.
For the 2024 season we are offering…….
Sea Squirts for our youngest new sailors Children who are 8-10 years old by June 17, 2024 and have never sailed previously should enroll in Sea Squirts. Sea Squirts is an 8-week program. (Minnows is a one-week program for 5–7-year-olds).
We are offering Intermediate Opti, Opti Racing, Laser, and 420, as usual. (Intermediate Opti is similar to White Fleet in 2023, and Opti Racing is similar to the 2023 Red Fleet). In addition, we are offering Sunfish and Bay Explorers. As explained on the course descriptions webpage, Bay Explorers is offered in two forms:
~ Bay Explorers twice a week for Laser, 420, and Opti Racers to have additional time on the water, race, and try other boats. This course is open to sailors who have completed Intermediate Opti (White Fleet of 2023)
~ Bay Explorers four times a week for Laser, Opti Racers, and 420 sailors who do not wish to race at regattas. This course is open to sailors who have completed Intermediate Opti (White Fleet of 2023).
The Jr. Sailing Program will be closed on Thursdays during the 8-week program except for the first Thursday, June 19 th , which will be a day of cruising about the bay. Each class, including Sea Squirts, meets four sessions per week (each session is a morning or afternoon). The all-day program is no longer offered.
We continue to try to streamline our transportation to regattas. We hope to purchase an OCYC van to tow boats and build out our large trailer to hold more boats. Parents are asked to take turns helping to tow boats as well. Thus, we are charging a reduced transportation fee for loading boats and transporting them. If you transport your own boat, there is no transportation fee.

Class Types In 2024, the class offerings will include both bay adventures (non-competitive sailing) and a regatta racing team. Children can be part of both offerings.
Boat Ownership & Rentals Whether you have a new or used boat, owning a boat can elevate your child’s experience, but is not required. Rental from the OCYC fleet is available as long as there is inventory; cost depends on the boat rented. Rental boats may be used for away regattas, as long as an OCYC coach is attending the regatta. Rental boats are typically allowed for only two years in a single boat class.
Scholarships Scholarships are available through the Ocean City Yacht Club Foundation at www.ocyc.org/foundation.
Scholarships may be offered to persons 5 to 18 years of age for membership, sailing lessons and/or equipment at the Ocean City Yacht Club or another sailing organization or institution.
