Jennifer Ray Beckman first came to Ocean City at six months old and has been spending summers on the island ever since. She holds a BA in Economics and International Studies from American University, where she studied abroad in England at Cambridge University, and an MBA from Johns Hopkins University where she focused on organizational governance. With over twenty years in the non-profit space, she is now principal of Clear Point Management, LLC, a boutique association management firm. Jennifer is the executive director of the Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia Chapters of the American College of Cardiology and holds the credential Certified Association Executive (CAE) from the American Society of Association Executives, and is an Everything DiSC Certified Practitioner. When she and husband Jon Beckman lived in Patuxent River, Maryland, and Washington, DC they enjoyed their Searay runabout out of the Navel Stations on the Patuxent and Severn. Jennifer and Jon and their high school aged children Audrey and Connor now live in West Chester, PA, her hometown. Never one to say no to volunteering, Jennifer has been member of the St Mary’s County, Maryland Environmental Council, Scholarship Chair VX-1 Spouses Club, Elder of the Presbyterian Church USA, Board Member at Goshen Friends School, New Member Advisor for Chi Omega Fraternity Eta Lamba Chapter, and Co-Chair of the East Girls Tennis Team Booster Club. The Beckman Family joined the club in 2018 after Audrey and Connor fell in love with sailing. Prior to becoming a Flag Officer, Jennifer was a member of the OCYC board as junior activities chair during COVID and subsequently communications/main sheet chair. Jennifer plays tennis and pickleball, loves to cook elaborate meals for friends and family, and enjoys traveling just about anywhere. | Debbie Stedman grew up all over the world as part of a military family until finally making Ocean City her summer base of operations for the last quarter century. She achieved her BA in Philosophy from the University of Mary Washington and her Juris Doctorate from Widener University Delaware School of Law. She started her career working for a private law firm in Malvern, PA and transitioned into litigation for the Office of the Public Defender in Lancaster County, PA where she eventually met her husband, Craig (not as a client.) While public service was gratifying, she moved into more international legal work with Nichia America Corporation serving as the HR Manager and Legal Advisor for the American operations in LED sales and then Graham Packaging, Company as Manager of International Legal Affairs and Administration for Central and South America’s plastic bottle production and packaging. More recently, she has worked as an estate lawyer for a general practice firm in Philadelphia. Somewhere in all this, she found the time to graduate from Leadership Lancaster, a year-long program designed to train and develop leaders to give back to their communities. The Stedman family joined OCYC in 2018, after their oldest child got the bug for sailing at the Ocean City Sailing Foundation years before. Prior to her nomination in her current role, she served on the Board as Junior Sailing Activities Chair and then more recently as the Insurance Chair. Debbie lives in Lititz, PA with her husband, two children, Ryan and Samantha, and a small zoo of animals. She is extremely active as a volunteer with her children’s school at countless special events and serves as the Cross-country coach. When not wrangling animals and serving as a family uber, she tries to pick up a game or two from those old days of tennis and sometimes looks at her old running shoes. | Russell Hanscom's family has ties to the OCYC dating back to the 1920’s when his great grandfather built a house across from the club. Through the generations the Hanscom’s were involved in power boating, mostly speed boat racing. His father was a Utility Class National Champion in the late ‘40s. His grandfather would participate in the log races in his cabin cruiser, Taffy. On his mother’s side, membership with OCYC started with his grandparents. The McKenna’s were active sailors at the club. Both the Hanscom’s and McKenna’s lived on the bay so boating, and water sports, became a large part of Russell’s life. The McKenna’s took their sailboat, Pirouette, from Ocean City to the Bahamas each winter. Russell would get weeks’ worth of school assignments then do his schoolwork while cruising the islands with his grandparents. They did this trip for 16 winters. Russell learned how to sail on a Sailfish, then a Moth and Laser but his favorite boat was the 110 which he rebuilt in the 80’s then raced with Cindi, who would eventually become his wife. In the 90’s they sailed offshore on Gizmo, his J24. After having children he eventually went back to the bay and raced his Lightning. Currently, Russell enjoys participating in Predicted Log events, the Sporting Clay Shooters and offshore and bay races. Russell served three terms on the board of governors. During his first term starting in 1987, he was responsible for the Semaphore and Baby Parade. In his second term in 2003 he was the Financial Secretary. In his third term, and before becoming a Flag Officer, he was the chairman of the Friday Night Bay racing committee. Professionally, Russell works in the financial services industry for. He is an Accredited Wealth Management Advisor and is the Director and Program Manager of the Wealth Advisors division of TruMark Financial. When not at work or the shore Russell spends time working with the Brandywine Open Land Conversancy, Paoli Presbyterian church, biking and taking hikes with his dogs. Russell met his wife Cindi on their first day at Eastern college. She didn’t know how to sail so in order for her to crew he used colored lines in the 110. She caught on quickly and became a great tactician on the boat and in life. Their primary home is in Malvern where they live with their dogs. They have two grown children, Courtney and Rachel. Courtney and Rachel were both sailing instructors and are currently intermediate members of the club. You will see them on Lasers or 420s on Friday nights. They represent the fifth generation of Hanscom’s at OCYC. |
